Practicing Real-Life Triggers with VR Role-Play

For someone in addiction recovery, even something as ordinary as an office holiday party can bring real stress.

Will there be alcohol? What if coworkers push drinks? How do I say no without making it awkward?

With Good Thoughts, these real-world challenges become role-play scenarios—safe, immersive rehearsals powered by VR and AI.

Turning Triggers into Training Grounds

Therapy helps—but daily life is where recovery is tested.
Holiday events, restaurants, and workplace social scenes often come with alcohol and subtle social pressure.

Good Thoughts helps clients practice how to:

  • Turn down drinks without fear

  • Manage social anxiety in alcohol-related settings

  • Build confidence in tough conversations

Recreating Familiar Spaces

We use customizable VR environments to simulate realistic settings—bars, lounges, and holiday parties—mirroring the actual challenge a client is preparing for.

Using Ready Player Me, we generate .glb avatar files that reflect the client’s appearance and surroundings. With industry-leading AI tools, we can even generate avatars of coworkers or family members from photo inputs, making the rehearsal feel authentic and personal.

Scripted Interactions with AI-Driven NPCs

Therapists and providers can design non-player characters (NPCs) based on real-life social contacts using generative AI. These characters can:

  • Engage in scripted or dynamic conversations

  • Mimic pressure points like, “Come on, just have one drink.”

  • Evolve over time with repeatable and adjustable interactions

This allows clients to safely practice setting boundaries, experience discomfort in a controlled environment, and reflect after each scenario.

Recovery isn’t just about saying no—it’s about knowing how.
With Good Thoughts, clients can rehearse real-life situations before they happen, helping them stay confident, prepared, and in control.
